Vethord: In the Misty Peak Mountains, nestled along the trade road that winds through the rugged terrain, lies the small mining town of Vethord. The name comes from the dwarvish lounge, meaning “White Shield”. This humble town has gained renown for its mining operations focused on extracting a rare bluish steel ore known as “Aetherium.”
Vethord owes its origins to the once influential Bernfall family, whose members possessed the knowledge and expertise to smelt the precious Aetherium ore. The heart of the town, known as The White Keep, was the ancestral home of the Bernfalls and served as their seat of power for generations. The White Keep, with its towering white walls and elegant architecture, stands as a testament to the family’s former prominence.
Although the decline of magic has caused many traders to abandon the trade route known as “Highridge Pass” through the Misty Peak Mountains, a few persistent outsiders still make the arduous journey to Vethord in search of the unique Aetherium ore. However, over the years, the town has suffered a significant decrease in production as the quantity of the precious ore has dwindled.
Following the fall of the Bernfall family from power approximately 60 years ago, control of the town shifted to a noble house from Conwyn. Currently, the noble house of Evergreen oversees the affairs of the city. While they lack the deep knowledge of Aetherium possessed by the Bernfalls, they have managed to maintain some semblance of order and stability in the diminished town.
Vethord once a bustling center of mining and trade, now bears the weight of its faded glory. The town’s inhabitants persevere, making the most of the remaining Aetherium deposits while seeking alternative means of livelihood in these challenging times.
