The second largest city in all of Durin, Kell Na’dar has some 40,000 residents living within its walls and yet another 10,000 to 20,000 traders and merchants that set up outside the walls. It like the capital city of Baktor rests on the massive river Kell. In fact, Kell Na’dar means “upon the Kell,” or “over the Kell” in the old tongue.
The city was built there long before the country of Durin came into being, though then it was just a small trading village. As time went on and the nation of Durin formed, Kell Na’dar grew in size and importance due to the trading needs of the country. The city itself is built across the rushing waters of the Kell, many of its districts float atop the waterways. It has become a major trading hub, not only for its location on the large trading lane of the river, but also because it sits on the border of both Gracia and the Republic of Malisted.
The city as well as the outlying lands is ruled by Duke Arthik Finch. He, like most people of power within the country, is as corrupt as the country itself. He is a man in his mid-forties and not someone to be taken lightly. He holds much power from his title of Duke given to him by his cousin King Valerin Ravenscroft, and even more power in controlling the major trading hub that many countries, including Durin, rely heavily on.
Life and Society
Life within the city is not an easy one as the weak are preyed upon by the strong. The city is walled off in sections and entrances to different areas are heavily guarded by the city guard. These districts of the city range from large mansions and homes of the rich and powerful, where lies and manipulation is second hat, to the half falling over hovels built atop one another in the Dregs district. Where crime runs rampant and every day is a fight to survive.

The Kell brings trade in from almost every country in Forin. They say you can find anything that your heart desires in Kell Na’dar. Harvested crops from Northern Ceriana, wild beasts and savage mercenaries from Rendar, Gracian wines, mithril artwork from Bal’Landorin, and even the occasional ancient artifact dug up in the scorched bones of Nolice all make their way along the Kell from time to time. The city makes a tidy profit on tariffs and tolls placed upon the good and ships that ply its waterways. Riverboat crew from the continent over find their way to the streets of Kell Na’dar to spend their hard earned coin. And the city is ready to provide any excuse to separate those coins from their hands.
As was mentioned, just about anything can be found in the city. For the right price, any need or vice can be fulfilled. Some stop for exotic cuisines that can only be found regularly in cities a thousand miles away. Others drop a few coins to have their fortunes told by mystics from far off Ceriana or watch the traditional dance of Home performed by a wandering troupe of halflings. But there are those with blacker hearts and darker desires. Poisons and drugs such as dreamweed and night-thistle change hands at the back of small dark shops. Swords and arrowheads are traded by arms dealers. Pleasure houses offer a multitude of hedonistic distractions to those who can afford it.
The Kell flows, bringing in goods from far off lands and sailors seeking thrills. Some days it carries out crafts and commodities and others the bodies of those who chose to wager their lives on their skill at arms. To some, the river as a doorway to the greatest cities the world has known, to others it is the last road to Metis’ kingdom.
