Even the gods have doubts. And in those doubts reside fear. The fear of power lost, the fear of destroying thousands of lives, the fear of pain all can make even a god hesitate. In that hesitation, in that spark of fear, Trilian rejoices. For he knows, even gods can be swayed by this primal emotion.
Trilian is the god of fear and terror. He’s quieter and less aggressive then his two older brothers. He was sired by Deimos and a black dragon. He wears no armor and carries no weapons. His only adornment is a set of black metal scaled gauntlets with jewels of different colors on each knuckle. Like his brothers, he carries out his father’s wishes and works toward Deimo’s ultimate goal of bringing all life under his rule. He is the smallest and thought to be the weakest of the brothers, but his devious mind more than makes up for his perceived lack of strength. He craves only to bring fear to the masses and his clergy. Deimos has his four children searching constantly for the shards of power the All Father stripped from him and his sister, Ariel. But Trilian secretly searches and collects them for himself. He has a grand wish to take over his father’s throne and remove his brothers from the picture. He rarely associates with his brothers but keeps close with his sister, Azerot.
Dogma:
All creatures, great and small know fear. The slavering beast, the darkest night, a faint chill wind; all of these can induce terror among the creatures of Alduras. The scent of fear is a fine perfume unto Trilian. What good is killing another when you can paralyze him with fear, or make him bow to your every whim? The knife can be used to kill or cripple, but to what end? The threat of the knife can make a slave of the strongest man, or defeat an enemy without even marching off to war. Even the brave know fear. For what is courage but the lie told to oneself to falsely deny fear. Fear is the ultimate ruler. No emotion is stronger, and none can be used to twist others to your will as easily.
“..Fear is a weapon that will never rust. Fear is the weapon in which we trust…” – Trilianite Chant
Clergy and Temples:
The clergy of Trilian are far from a single, organized faction. The majority of priests act alone or in small cults. Many show another face to the world, while worshipping Trilian secretly. The unseen can be much more terrifying than the visible. Many individual worshippers keep a small altar secreted within their residence. The fear of being found and caught worshipping the evil got is a prayer in itself. The cunning politician, the tyrant king, the back alley thug, all do Trilian homage through their deeds if not their words. The loosely organized cults sometimes function like gangs and induce terror in the streets or countryside through acts of kidnapping and vandalism. Other times they are revolutionaries trying to overthrow the established government. These cults sometimes devote a small building as a temple to Trilian. His temples are commonly decorated in the functional tools of torture and imprisonment. Though there is no clear leader among the chaotic Trilianites, those clerics that devote their lives to Trilian sometimes gain the high priest title of Incarnate Terror. Those priests that do have a martial bent are sometimes referred to as the Fists of Fear.
