Life and Society
Bal’Landorin is a real melting pot. Peoples of all races can be found throughout the land. The ancient war of Gracia’s schism pushed peoples out of their homes and across the borders. Many ended up retreating toward the coast and eventually settling in what is now Bal’Landorin. People enjoy being around their own kind and so, many town and city populations skew toward a given race. The cities are relatively independent and manage themselves with little oversight from the nation’s government. In fact, the country’s government is very limited in power except in times of war and during overt aggression between feuding cities.

Thunderclap Cove – Is home to one of Forin’s technological marvels as well as a few Cerian pirates. With the help of engineers from Hollow Mount an underground river was expanded and dammed to connect the waters of the cove with the White River through a series of locks that run through the mountain chain. Usually goods are transported from ocean going vessels to flat bottomed river barges at floating docks that are located near the edge of the cove. The barges then make their way into the locks and spend a few days in relative darkness as they move under the mountains before breaking forth into the sunlight and heading down the White River to Bran’Dellen or farther into the Shar’Naril Forest or even Gracia proper.
Arnor Nimloth “The High” Forest
Shar’Naril Forest – These dense woods make up a significant part of the border between Bal’Landorin and Gracia. It is mainly inhabited by Moon elves and along with Lollen’del is one of the few remaining lands inhabited by the noble people.
Important Sites
The Dark Divide
The Dark Divide is a massive swath of land that runs from the sea to the Gracian border. All who fear death stay far from its edge. A dark mist hangs constantly in the air about it. Those who have come close to it have said they heard the rumble of thunder and all their hair stood up straight. A few have even claimed to have seen inside the fog. Dark treelines spotted with dark shadowed towers run as far as the eye can see….
Hollow Mount
Hollow Mount is a technological marvel in and of itself, but is also home to many more. Alchemists, tinkerers, and thinkers of all types have made their way to Hollow Mount for generations. It is a place where magic is seen as crutch to the power of innovation. Why rely on some arcane or mystic energy to light a room for hours, when only a very few people can harness those powers? Would it not be better have a mixture of solutions and metals that when properly applied, can do the same thing, and be done by anybody?
The mountain itself has been partially hollowed out over 1,000 years. Within this great void are the workshops of hundreds of inventors, engineers, scientists, and lunatics. Gnomes, make up a substantial part of the population, but humans, dwarves, elves, and halflings all have representation among the largest think tank on the continent.
Shar’Norl (Capital, 50,000)
Shar’Norl sits between the coast and the Bal’Landorin Woods in the foothills leading up to the mountain chain that contains Hollow Mount. Many Grey elves inhabit the city on the edge of the forest.
Bran’Dellin (City, 10,000)
Bran’Dellin is one of the northern most cities of Bal’Landorin. It stands near the branching of the
White and Bramble Bee rivers. Many river boats taking goods to Gracia start their journey here.

Teekle (City, Population)
Teekle’s main population is made up of halflings and gnomes. The buildings at the center are much smaller in stature than those along the edge where more humans and elves make their homes. It has an inverted look compared to many other cities. Many of the short folk are those who have either left Hollow Mount after becoming disillusioned with their grand ideas, or the offspring of those thinkers who have not had the knack to continue on with years of experimentation.
The city is a trading hub, and many minor technologies have flowed from the mountain to Teekle and out into the world.
Stony Glen (City, Population)
Stony Glen leans heavily to dwarven culture. The city stands partially above ground and partially below, as housing and commercial districts have been constructed along one of the walls of an open face mine. Many raw materials are taken from the mine and traded away. A few bits still get worked by the local dwarf populace who cherish the crafting side of their nature and not just the mining side.
A few mighty cranes line the edge of near mile long trench ready to hoist the materials from the lower staging areas. A few small booms with block and tackle work along the cliff face as well. Bridges and staircases are abundant along the edge of the mine to help citizens and workers get from place to place.
Bromwich
Little coastal village…big on harvesting clams. Couple boats with dredging apparatuses. Makes a fine clam chowder. Shells ground up to make a type of aggregate for gravel substitute, a rough concrete, and finely ground as a fertilizer.
Belstead
A small farming village near Aelsid Lake with a very large wizard tower standing prominent and ominous protecting its citizens by absorbing all magic spells cast within city limits.
Telphin’s Mill
Telphin’s Mill was once a small collection of homes and a water wheel powered mill. As farmers kept coming from farther and farther away, an inn was built. Things grew from there. Now two mills stand along the river and one wind mill on a nearby hill. A sprawling medley of cottages make up the still quaint but growing town. Barley, rye, and oats flow like water through the town.
Ranceway
Small port trade city ran by Denston the One-eyed. He runs the town with ruthless efficiency, but he never overstepped in tyranny. As with all ports, you see various folk on the streets and in the docks, as well as variety of goods. The town is home to the Runesmiths, a group of smiths, and undergraduate wizards who discovered how to infuse steel with some level of magic, making them only ones in the realm who can reliably create magical weapons and armor.
Syom’skit-Ngthefl
Legend says that this gnomish town was purposefully named to be difficult to pronounce, so that outsiders would feel unwelcome. True or not, the gnomes of the area tend to be gruff and standoffish, with seemingly little interest in trade or news of the outside world. How such a place continues to thrive is a mystery.
Flotsam
This city resides within an absolutely massive metal ship that rests in the middle of a bay. The lower decks are submerged, but the upper decks are habitable and hotly contested realty. The means of operating the ship and any weapon systems it may have had are long lost, but a strange phenomena attracts debris to the ship. A field of floating scrap metal, debris, and garbage surrounds the ship for a few miles. The field is thick enough to walk on within a few miles, but hazardous with occasional thin spots and sharp debris. Within the immediate vicinity of the ship the debris is thick enough that some have been able to construct structures on it, making a shantytown. Flotsam is a little lawless and home to many a merc, pirate, freebooters, and flamboyant duelist and gunfighters all in search of making a name for themselves.
Distra Odihnă
A town for performers retirement. This place is where the bards, dancers, poets, opera singers, and everything in between comes when it’s their time to lay down the dancing shoes, quills, instruments, or costumes. Almost everyone here is in good spirits, though with this many people devoted to the beauty and arts that is not surprising. Feel free to visit and hear the tales of the entire world with these people, just be sure not to linger after dark if you don’t also share the love of the stage…Said to be the fabled home of one Benjamin Lovejoy.
Towertown
A wizard’s tower that’s bigger on the inside. The wizard died long ago, but the Kenku he employed still live there. They’ve been there for generations, creating several family lineages within the giant tower. As time went by more and more people have come to the tower. There seems to be no end to how far it will expand.
Ashwell
Small farming village south of Lake Aelsíd a mix of dwarves, half elves, and gnomes the small village has a small remote temple to Danein on its outskirts.
Sunflower Keep (Hamlet, Population: 52)
Small farming hamlet southeast of Ashwell. Most known for its amazing flowers and the old abandoned keep that dwells within its small borders. The keep has been transformed by flowers each year and is a tourist sight seeing spot.
