Life and Society
The citizens of Northern Ceriana are a solid and sturdy people. Hard work and taking joy in simple pleasures are the order of the day. Farming is the principal career of the majority of the people. Many years ago, the lands of Northern Ceriana were commonly raided by other nations for their plethora of foodstuffs. As such, a bit of warrior blood still runs through the veins of some resident families. Because of the hard work ethic and the willingness to help a neighbor in need, crime is fairly low throughout the land. Sherrifs and constables make up a roving police force, but most problems are small enough that a bit of a thumping by the head of the family takes care of the matter. A smattering of elves and dwarves live in the northern stretch of the country where deep woods and lofty mountains are found. The Outlands are a set of rolling plains dotted with copses of trees and acres and acres of farmsteads producing anything from tunips to apples. Sheep are common in the northern reaches as well, while horse herds and a fair number of cattle are more common in the southern parts of the country. It is said that Northern Ceriana feeds half of Forin and the caravans that make their way from this nation are the lifeblood of the continent.

Major Geographical Features

Orgden Lake – This large lake sits in the middle of the country. Legend has it that once, long ago, two mighty gods fought in the heavens above. One, overpowering the other, struck a devastating blow and sent the opposing deity falling to the lands below. Where that god fell, a great furrow was rent. The heavens themselves cried for the fallen immortal and soon filled the crater with water leaving what is now Orgden Lake.

Important Sites
Orgden Hamlet (Small town, 2,000)
On the northern banks of Orgden Lake sits Orgen Hamlet. This large villiage hosts both a farming and a fishing community. Much of the produce destined for foreign markets, making its way out of the Outlands, comes through Orgden Hamlet, for a giant wooden bridge crosses the river just north of the town. The bridge acts like a funnel that both forms the beginnings of the trade caravans and the start of the major trade route heading east out of Northern Ceriana.

Twin Peaks (Frontier Village, 500)
Near the base of the Cerian Mountains lies Twin Peaks. One of the nearest mounts boasts a craggy split top peak from which the community takes its name. The village provides a base camp for the adventurous gold miners that try to wrest their fortunes from the stony grip of the mountains. A mix of rugged men and dwarves spend their time not in the search of the precious metal at a rough timber tavern telling the stories of those that struck it rich and what their plans are for when they find their motherload. A mixed breed of sheep and mountain goat has been cultivated here as well. While their wool is far from soft, it does make for a very warm and durable material. Twin Peak wool is often sought after for making coats, cloaks, and blankets by those who find themselves in colder climates. Many a Rendarian sailor has been thankful to the hearty beasts and their wool while plying the waters of the Sea of Ice.

Westgate (Oceanside Town, 5,000)
Situated on the only neck of relatively clear land that joins Northern Ceriana to the open oceans of the world, Westgate boasts both a fine set of docks and one of the few standing garrisons within the country. The surplus of commodities that don’t make their way east with the trade caravans find their way to Westgate. Rendarian trading vessels are commonly found in berth here loading or unloading goods and then setting off along Forin’s western coast. A well maintained seaside keep overlooking the town deters thoughts of piracy and raiding in the immediate vicinity. A group of Gracian expatriates have taken up jobs as a siege works team and are currently updating the keep’s firepower and reach.

Regional History
On a grand scale, Northern Ceriana is a fertile valley between two mountain ranges. The rich soil has made the land a place of fruitful farms. These profitable homesteads have also made the area a target for raiders. In years past, a handful of mountain passes made Northern Ceriana accessible by its southern neighbor. The southlands were much more arid and did not enjoy the ability to grow mass amounts of food. It was not uncommon for war parties to go over the mountains to loot and pilliage the farms and stockpiles. During the war that split the Empire of Nolice from Gracia, allies of Nolice made their way through these passes and attempted to destoy much of the stockpiled grain in order to hinder Gracia’s ability to resupply its armies. After clearing out these invading armies, Gracian engineers and magic users destroyed many of these mountain passes essentially sealing off Northern Ceriana from its warlike neighbor to the south.
