The Borderlands

The Borderlands is a volatile expanse surrounding the massive crater that cradles the great desert. This rugged territory is home to displaced monstrous races—goblins, orcs, gnolls, hobgoblins, and other creatures of fierce spirit and tenacity—pushed back by humanity during the brutal conflict known as the War of the Broken Chains. Long ago, human kingdoms, along with allied elven and dwarven forces, waged this relentless campaign to secure their lands, driving the monstrous races from once-shared territories and leaving them confined to the rough, hazardous reaches of the Borderlands.

Since the war, the monsters of the Borderlands have forged a tenuous existence amid the cliffs, broken fortresses, and meager resources that dot the region. Most factions are fractured, forced to band together by necessity rather than unity, surviving through mutual alliances, trade networks, and a complex web of truces. Life in the Borderlands is harsh, and many now see the desert as a source of hope rather than despair, venturing within to seek relics, arcane secrets, and means of empowerment.

For these races, the crater desert is a dangerous new frontier and a place where even the outcast can earn honor and power. The most daring among them have become Seekers, risking the perils of the sands to reclaim lost status and perhaps, one day, to challenge the world beyond the Borderlands once more.
